Overview
This measure aims to relieve the cost pressure on domestic tinplate and Wuxi steel producers, which are key materials widely used in the manufacturing of food cans.
As the Philippines has no local production capacity for blackboards in tin factories and is completely dependent on imports, the Economic and Development Council has approved tariff cuts to help stabilize the supply chain, reduce manufacturing costs, and encourage investment in related industries.
The government expects this adjustment to promote employment and strengthen the food packaging industry. The new tariff rates will be reviewed one year after their implementation.
