British Steel secures future of both blast furnaces
British Steel has officially withdrawn its HR1 consultation form, which was submitted to the Department for Business and Trade on March 27, 2025. This announcement follows the government's recent passage of the Steel Special Measures Act on April 12, 2025, which aims to stabilize the company's blast furnace production.

Working quickly with government officials and industry partners, the company has secured a stable short-term supply of raw materials for both blast furnaces. As a result, the previously planned 'Salamander Tap' procedure for the Queen Bess blast furnace will no longer be necessary.

The company confirms that all operations at British Steel facilities will continue as normal, including those at the Scunthorpe Rod Mill.
